Mikel Zunzundegui


Born in Irun, began his musical cello studies at the Conservatory of Music of Irun with Iñaki Etxepare. In 2002 he obtained the title of Music and the "Recital Certificate of Guildhall School of Music and Drama" specializing in cello with honors, and four years later the title of Music at the Conservatory of Music Basque Country "Musikene" under the guidance of Asier Polo.

Granted by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, extends his graduate studies in the School of Music of Catalonia "Esmuc" with Damian Martinez and the Academy of Orchestral Studies "Barenboim-Said" in Seville with Elena Cheah.

He attends various master classes taught by teachers Lluis Claret, Claudio Bohorquez, Daniel Grosgurin, Peter Thieman, Radu Aldulescu, etc. As well as baroque cello courses with teachers Itziar Atutxa and David Watkin.

Has been a member of the Youth Orchestra of the Basque Country (EGO), National Youth Orchestra of Spain (JONDE) and the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), and has worked with the Symphony Orchestra of Euskadi, Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Spanish Radio Television, Extremadura Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Castilla y León and the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, with whom he has had the opportunity to play in many parts of the world, under the direction of internationally renowned directors such as Vladimir Askenhazy, Christopher Hogwood, Sergiu Comissiona, Adrian Leaper, Josep Pons, Lionel Bringier, Vasily Petrenko, Lutz Köhler, etc.

He makes part of various chamber music ensembles such as "Cre-Art Project", "Duo Grazioso", or the contemporary music ensemble "Smash Ensemble."

In the teaching domain he has been a professor at the School of Music of Arrasate, the Conservatory of Music "Tomás Luis de Victoria" of Avila and the Conservatory of Music of Palencia.

He has also been teacher at the summer school "III Curso de Música Ciudad de Ávila" organized by the University of Salamanca in July 2009 and the "First International Music, EPPIM 2012" held in Medellin (Colombia) in July 2011 .

Moreover he has been professor and artistic director of the "First Cello Seminary of Castilla and Leon, Cellocyl 2012" held in Valladolid in May 2012.

He currently teaches cello at the Conservatory of Music in Valladolid.
