Swedish violinist Karin Hellqvist is residing in Berlin and performing internationally as an interpreter of contemporary music. She is educated at the academies of Stockholm, Oslo, Berlin and at the Royal College of Music in London from where she was awarded an Artist Diploma in Performance in 2011. As a violinist in a young generation of musicians engaged in the music of today, she is a member of several of the leading Scandinavian ensembles for contemporary music as Cikada, Oslo Sinfonietta, and Curious Chamber Players. Her solo repertoire already includes many international commissions and more recently a family of works exploring the violin in the company of electronics and sound objects. Karin has received international prizes from the Doubloug Foundation, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and the 45th International Summer Course for New Music in Darmstadt.
During 2013 Karin is performing at festivals as Gaudeamus Utrecht, Warsaw Autumn, ULTIMA Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Milano Musica, the Baltic Sea Festival, Preludio21 Rio de Janeiro, Time of Music Viitasaari and at the Colombian Contemporary Music Circle Bogota.
