Julien Feltrin studied recorder at the Conservatoire Regional de Lille and musicology at the Universite Charles de Gaulle Lille III and at the Sorbonne. This was followed by recorder studies at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam where he was a student of Walter van Hauwe and Paul Leenhouts. There he concentrated on contemporary music, live-electronic music and contemporary improvisation. He graduated with honours in 2003. As a contemporary music recorder player he has performed with such groups as the Asko and Schoenberg Ensembles in Amsterdam. He has taught at the National Music School in Chartres, and at the University of Paris V. In September 2003, he won 2nd prize at the 7th contemporary music competition in Cracow.
