Born in Mexico City in 1975. Today a resident of Austria, having come to Europe in 1997, and commenced composition studies in Milan with Franco Donatoni the same year. Later he moved to Paris to pursue a PhD with Horacio Vaggione. In Mexico he studied at the CIEM and with Juan Trigos. He undertook projects at IRCAM (Paris), the Experimentalstudio (Freiburg), the ZKM Center for Art and Media (Karlsruhe) and the ISTC (Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology, Zurich).
His work, frequently presented at international festivals in Europe, encompasses instrumental and electroacoustic music as well as dance and music theatre projects featuring video and electronics.
Currently, he is composing works for the Parisian Itinéraire and Instant Donné ensembles, collaborating with the choreographer Chris Haring, the artist Günter Brus and the Viennese Phace Ensemble on a new dance show for October 2012 in Wien Modern Festival, and recording his second CD monograph (on the NEOS label) with the ensemble recherche and the Phace Ensemble, for whom he will serve as composer in residence in 2012. This same year Arturo Fuentes received the annual "Staatsstipendium" (grant) awarded by the Austrian State for composition.
